Shizuka Shimazu (島津 静, Shizuka Shimazu) is the captain of the Miyazaki coast guard vessel Miike.

He got married when he was 30 and had 2 children and lived in Hokkaido along with his 3 dogs. He didn't knew how to say "no", so he kept getting transferred and started living apart from his family.
Just before Japan got attacked by the terraformars, he called his wife and talked with her for the fist time in 10 years. He learned that his daughter had married and made plans to return to Hokkaido in April. As the terraformars attacked Japan, his vessel Miike was in the sea and saw the approaching terraformars armada, getting concerned they attack right now, since Japan was in a state of confusion, due to their prime minister falling ill.
