Kaiki Kono (河野 開紀, Kōno Kaiki) was a Japanese man stationed in Komachi Shokichi's Nippon-America Alliance Squad 1.

History

Annex I Arc (2619 A.D.)

Kaiki is first seen in his injected form after Squad 1 readies to engage the Terraformers that ambushed them. Sometime after the battle and enroute to Squad 2, Squad 1 was again engaged in combat with terraformers. During the battle, Kaiki engaged the rather tall well built terraformer with Black Weevil powers (Pachyrhynchus infernalis), but he lost his life in the process.

Powers and Abilities

Kaiki's transformation

After receiving his M.O. Operation, Kaiki gained the powers and abilities of the Taiwan habu (Trimeresurus mucrosquamatus), a species of pit viper endemic to Asia. Given the fact that he gained a pair of stinger-like protuberances near each of his wrists, which might be fangs, when transformed, it seems likely that he was able to wield the highly toxic venom common for his base. Since his surgery base was a snake his reflexes were probably improved too. It can also be assumed that he has the ability of the pit viper to sense heat signatures. He's also a karateka who mastered Okinawa karate.

Etymology

• The name Kaiki means "open, unfold, unseal" (開) (kai) and "chronicle" (紀) (ki).
• Kaiki's surname Kono means "river, stream" (河) (ko) and "field, wilderness" (野) (no).
